History of CPM Magnacut
This type of steel was developed by Dr Larrin Thomas, a metallurgist who has dedicated his career to improving knife steel. He is the son of Devin Thomas, a famous damascus smith who supplied Chris Reeve Knives with steel for many years. Dr Larrin Thomas works in the automotive industry but is passionate about knife steels. He thought it should be possible to do better, and together with Crucible Industries came up with CPM MagnaCut. Handle made of GFN
The handle of the Böker DTK 110308, Satin MagnaCut, Black GFN pocket knife is made of GFN and measures 11.1 cm in length. GFN stands for ‘Glass-Filled Nylon’. In that sense, it is pretty much the same as FRN (Fibre-Reinforced Nylon). These terms are also used interchangeably. Basically, GFN is a nylon-based plastic that has been reinforced with glass fibres for extra strength and durability.
