The CRKT M16 Crossbar Lock Tanto Veff Serrations M16-14XD Desert Tan EDP D2, Desert Tan GRN was launched in January 2025 as the latest addition to CRKT’s iconic M16 series. What makes this version unique is the innovative crossbar-lock. Only once before did CRKT modify the locking mechanism of a model in this series, with the introduction of the Deadbolt lock in 2022. The crossbar-lock is an effective and symmetrical system that is easy to use for both left- and right-handed people. This lock is therefore ideal for everyday use and particularly popular among EDC enthusiasts.

Opening the CRKT M16 Crossbar Lock Tanto Veff Serrations M16-14XD Desert Tan EDP D2, Desert Tan GRN, pocket knife, Kit Carson design with one hand is very easy thanks to the thumb stud. Once opened, the sturdy Crossbar Lock ensures that the blade is locked and won’t accidentally close during use. A cool feature of this lock is that it can be easily used by both left-handed and right-handed users.

The name ‘Crossbar Lock’ is a generic term for locks of this type. The foundation of this mechanism was the Axis Lock as developed by Benchmade. Today, several manufacturers happily make use of the same mechanism, though sometimes under different names.

Blade made of D2 steel
The blade of the CRKT M16 Crossbar Lock Tanto Veff Serrations M16-14XD Desert Tan EDP D2, Desert Tan GRN, pocket knife, Kit Carson design is made of D2. This is a tool steel that has been used for all kinds of cutting tools since World War II. It is tough, easy to sharpen and retains its sharpness very well. Do take care around moisture and acids; D2 is not entirely stainless. It may discolour or even rust if not properly taken care of. Therefore, it’s important to clean and dry the blade after use, and a drop of oil every once in a while can’t hurt.

Handle made of FRN

The handle of the CRKT M16 Crossbar Lock Tanto Veff Serrations M16-14XD Desert Tan EDP D2, Desert Tan GRN, pocket knife, Kit Carson design is made of FRN and measures 13.5 cm in length. FRN stands for Fibre-Reinforced Nylon. That makes it a type of plastic made from nylon, and reinforced with glass fibres for additional strength and durability. FRN is also known as GFN.
