The Marttiini Timberjack is a traditional Finnish Puukko. These knives were used in Scandinavia as all-rounders. From everyday cutting tasks to hunting and fishing. These knives are even suitable for food prep or for use in your kitchen. The inspiration for this knife was therefore drawn from the almost 100 years of history and experience in knife making that the Finnish brand Marttiini acquired over the years. The knife is made from natural materials. Wood for the handle and leather for the sheath.
The knife features a scandi grind. The scandi grind, as the name suggests, originates from Scandinavia. The scandi grind has been the standard for ages when it comes to outdoor knives, hunting knives and bushcraft knives. In fact, a large v-shaped edge, without any further frills. A scandi grind is easy to manufacture and easy to sharpen at home. A scandi grind is great for wood work. Because the blade is relatively thick, it is very strong and can handle quite a lot.
Rubber handle
The handle is made of black rubber with a nice texture which offers good grip when using the knife. The end of the handle flares out a bit, which gives the user a better grip when the knife is pulled out of the sheath or in use.
Carbon-steel blade
The blade is made from carbon steel with a black coating. Carbon steel is a popular choice for outdoor knives. The advantage of carbon steel is that it is often tougher than stainless steel, and it is very easy to sharpen yourself.
Plastic sheath
The Marttiini Timberjack comes with a plastic sheath.
The blade of the Marttiini Condor Timberjack 578013 Carbon, rubber, plastic sheath, bushcraft knife measures 10 cm in length and 3 mm in thickness. The total length is 22 cm.
Blade made of carbon steel
The blade of the Marttiini Condor Timberjack 578013 Carbon, rubber, plastic sheath, bushcraft knife is made from carbon steel. As the name suggests, this steel has a very high carbon content. Carbon contributes to the sharpness and a significant part of the edge retention. However, carbon steel is not corrosion resistant. It discolours quite easily and can even rust if not properly maintained. The main advantage of carbon steel is that it is very easy to sharpen.
This knife has a scandi grind. As the name somewhat suggests, this method of sharpening originated in Scandinavia. A scandi edge excels at wood carving, which is why it is a popular choice for bushcraft knives. Sharpening a scandi edge is very easy, because the wide blade automatically guides you over the sharpening stone. Read more about sharpening a scandi edge here.
