Nitecore DL30 submersible diving light, 1100 lumens

The Nitecore DL30 is a tactical torch intended for divers and general, professional use underwater. The housing is made of aero-grade aluminium with a ‘Hardcoat Type 3’ hard anodised finish, and weighs only 126 grams underwater. The diamond texture on the handle makes it very grippy. Its IP68 rating makes this torch completely waterproof and dustproof up to a depth of 100 metres. That’s because the DL30 has double O-rings, and in addition, the torch has a good impact resistance of up to 1 metre. To top it all off, this torch is equipped with the ATR (Advanced Temperature Control), and reverse polarity protection. The included ‘diffuser’ (with cord), gives you the option of changing the DL30 into an omnidirectional beacon light or a soft ambient light.

The torch offers a maximum output of 1100 lumens, 155,420 candela and reaches a distance of 788 metres. Included accessories: a diffuser, a wrist strap, a Nitecore NL2153R 21700 li-ion battery, a USB-C cable and 2 spare O-rings.

The LED of the Nitecore DL30 has four light modes, an SOS function and four different flashing modes. The light beam is focused, allowing it to reach very far. The torch spreads the light at a 3-degree angle. This helps divers cope with the difficult and varied situations one may encounter underwater. The DL30 dive light is easy to operate with 1 hand as the operation requires only 1 push of the large button. Around the button is a battery indicator, so you can always see approximately how much charge you have left.

How to use the DL30

Operating the torch is relatively simple: Press the button once briefly to switch it on. Then briefly press the button to cycle between the different light intensities. For SOS mode, strobe mode and flashing mode, it does not matter whether the torch is turned on or not. For these modes, press the button twice briefly, then once briefly to cycle through the different modes. To switch the light off, briefly press the button again.

This flashlight is enhanced with different light modes. When you use a Nitecore NL2153R 21700 li-ion battery with a power of 5000aAh it can produce the following light modes:

Turbo: 1100 lumens, maximum burn time of approx. 2 hours, 155,420 candela
High: 800 lumens, maximum burn time of approx. 3 hours, 124,895 candela
Mid: 650 lumens, maximum burn time of approx. 4 hours, 93,685 candela
Low: 350 lumens, maximum burn time of approx. 6 hours, 51,921 candela
SOS: 1100 lumens
Quick flashing: 1100 lumens
Flashing 1 sec, 2 sec and 3 sec: 1100 lumens

Prevent a too deeply discharged battery

Are you not using your flashlight for a while? Always make sure to unscrew the tail cap a little bit. This prevents your battery from becoming too deeply discharged. Even when the light is off, it still draws some power from the battery. A battery that is too deeply discharged often cannot be recharged. That would be a shame!

Do you have a torch with built-in battery where you cannot remove the battery? Make sure to charge the light at least once every 3-4 months, even when not in use. This also prevents the battery from discharging too deeply, and it is good for the lifespan of your battery!
