The Spartan Blades Ares SB1BKGRKYBK Black, Green Micarta is a tough survival knife, made in the USA. Its profile is relatively slim, and yet perfect for use in the field. Immediately noticeable about this knife is its generous pointed shape. The spine of the blade was made even thinner to save weight. And yet, because of the full blade thickness it is still very strong. Curtis Lovito and Mark Carey, founders of Spartan Blades, both have a military background. Keeping that target group in mind they designed the Spartan Ares. It will look great on your flak jacket and can definitely handle the challenges of a deployment.

The Ares comes with a sturdy kydex sheath. The sheath is enhanced with a mounting clip with MOLLE compatible loops. It is, however, also great that you can choose how to carry it because of the many mounting eyes. Think of Tek-Loks or MOLLE clips (not included).

Blade made of CPM Magnacut steel
The blade of this Spartan Blades Ares, Gold – Elite Grade is made of CPM Magnacut steel, possibly the most revolutionary steel of the 21st century. MagnaCut offers an unrivalled balance between sharpness retention, toughness, corrosion resistance and ease of sharpening. Since the release of CPM MagnaCut in 2021, it has become one of the most popular steels in the world of knives. The MagnaCut blade of this pocket knife measures 13.8 cm in length.

History of CPM Magnacut
This type of steel was developed by Dr Larrin Thomas, a metallurgist who has dedicated his career to improving knife steel. He is the son of Devin Thomas, a famous damascus smith who supplied Chris Reeve Knives with steel for many years. Dr Larrin Thomas works in the automotive industry but is passionate about knife steels. He thought it should be possible to do better, and together with Crucible Industries came up with CPM MagnaCut. The blade is finished with a DLC coating, which stands for ‘Diamond Like Carbon’. It’s a very hard coating that is even harder than the steel. This makes DLC very scratch-resistant, and this coating protects the blade against corrosion. DLC is very hard, but it is also only a thin layer: eventually, you will always see signs of use.



Micarta handle
The handle of the Spartan Blades Ares SB1BKGRKYBK Black, Green Micarta, survival knife, kydex sheath is made of micarta. This is a composite material made of fabric and synthetic resin. If you look closely, you can see a subtle texture on the surface, sometimes it looks almost like wood. This material is strong and stable, and it’s very grippy.



The Spartan Blades Ares SB1BKGRKYBK Black, Green Micarta, survival knife, kydex sheath comes with a sheath made of kydex, a sturdy plastic that will keep the steel safe. However, it is important to keep a kydex sheath clean on the inside. Rinse it regularly with water. This will prevent dirt from remaining in the sheath, which can scratch the blade.
