The Spartan Blades Harsey Folder is a large pocket knife, designed by William (Bill) Harsey. This master designer in the knife industry has a very recognisable style. You immediately recognise certain shapes. The bump above the thumb stud and the shape of the base of the handle, for instance. This amazing pocket knife was noticed by more people because it won the American Made Knife of the Year 2016 award at the Blade Show in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Ergonomically speaking, the Harsey folder is sublime. Exactly what you might expect from a Harsey design. Even with large hands or gloves, this pocket knife is easy to use. The construction is incredibly sturdy. The frame is made from two thick pieces of titanium: 4 mm each. Three standoffs in between the handle make the frame incredibly rigid. The pivot is also very strong. Not a tiny screw, but a massive one with a large head. It’s T15, so you know this isn’t a pocket knife for lighter tasks.

With its blade length of 9.9 cm, it’s especially suited for demanding cutting tasks. This is not a compact knife! When closed, it measures 12.5 cm in length and it weighs 175 g.

MagnaCut offers an unrivalled balance between sharpness retention, toughness, corrosion resistance and ease of sharpening. Since the release of CPM MagnaCut in 2021, it has become one of the most popular steels in the world of knives. The MagnaCut blade of this pocket knife measures 9.9 cm in length.

History of CPM Magnacut
This type of steel was developed by Dr Larrin Thomas, a metallurgist who has dedicated his career to improving knife steel. He is the son of Devin Thomas, a famous damascus smith who supplied Chris Reeve Knives with steel for many years. Dr Larrin Thomas works in the automotive industry but is passionate about knife steels. He thought it should be possible to do better, and together with Crucible Industries came up with CPM MagnaCut. The ‘stonewash’ process was chosen for the finish of this blade. The stonewash process involves the blade being placed inside a drum with ceramic stones, or media, and then vibrated or tumbled for several hours. The result is a finish that looks precisely polished or roughened depending on the version. The advantage of stonewashing, however, is that signs of use are much less noticeable. That makes it a popular choice for knives that see a lot of use.



Titanium handle

The handle of this Spartan Blades Harsey Folder is made of titanium and measures 12.5 cm in length. Titanium is a fantastic high-tech material. It is an excellent choice for the handle of a pocket knife for several reasons: titanium is very strong, lightweight and it is flexible. Moreover, titanium can be machined very precisely and a wide range of different finishes are possible. To be exact, the handle is made of a titanium alloy. Small amounts of aluminium and vanadium are added to pure titanium to make it even more suitable for use as a pocket knife handle.
