The Spyderco Matriarch 2 is an evolved version of the original Matriarch. The Matriarch is one of Spyderco’s most iconic pocket knives. The original design of the Matriarch was inspired by a request from Spyderco’s South African distributor for an economical version of the classic Spyderco Civilian. Fast-forward a few years to 2023 and the Matriarch 2 is here!

Spyderco Matriarch 2 blade

The blade of the Matriarch 2 is made from VG10. This is a tough steel that retains its sharpness well. The S-shaped blade combined with Spyderco’s serrated SpyderEdge are what makes the Matriarch such a distinctive knife. This blade shape is suitable for diverse tactical purposes. However, it’s also great for opening packages or cutting rope.

You can quickly open the Matriarch 2 with the thumb hole, or with the Emerson Wave Opening Feature. With this feature, you slightly pull the knife back when you take it from your pocket. The Wave will get caught behind the side seam of your pocket and the knife will automatically open as you pull it out. A great feature when every second counts!

Spyderco Matriarch 2 handle

For the handle, Spyderco chose to use the design of the Endura 4 as a starting point. Thanks to the FRN (fibre glass-reinforced nylon) the knife is very light-weight, despite its size. The solidity is increased by the steel liners in the handle. These, however, are milled out to make sure the liners don’t make the knife too heavy. FRN can also handle cold, heat, moisture and many chemicals.

The pocket clip can be attached in four different places. Both left and right-handed users can easily use this knife.
