The Spyderco MicroJimbo is a smaller version of the famous YoJimbo, a cool pocket knife designed by Michael Janich. Janich is a respected expert in the field of self-defence. In constrast to its bigger brother, the compact size of the MicroJimbo makes it perfect for EDC. Use it as a utility knife, or as a back-up to your larger knife.
The Spyderco MicroJimbo CPM S90V C264CFP Carbon Fiber, Sprint Run pocket knife, Michael Janich design is a nice EDC knife in the colour black. With its blade length of 6.2 cm, it’s a compact pocket knife that effortlessly fits inside your pocket. You can also notice this in the weight of 80 g. You’ll barely notice you’re carrying it with you!
Opening the Spyderco MicroJimbo CPM S90V C264CFP Carbon Fiber, Sprint Run pocket knife, Michael Janich design with one hand is very easy thanks to the thumb hole. Once opened, the sturdy Compression Lock ensures that the blade is locked and won’t accidentally close during use. The Compression Lock is an invention by Sal Glesser and his son Eric Glesser ofSpyderco. In terms of operation, it’s kind of like a reverse liner lock. However, in practice, the Compression Lock is much stronger. This is because the lock wedges laterally between the blade tang and the stop pin, rather than just making contact with the blade. What’s more, a Compression Lock has a very high ‘fidget factor’.
Blade made from CPM S90V steel
This Spyderco MicroJimbo CPM S90V C264CFP Carbon Fiber, Sprint Run pocket knife, Michael Janich design features a blade made from CPM S90V steel, an American steel made by Crucible Industries. It offers incredible sharpness retention, so you’ll rarely need to sharpen it. Moreover, it is corrosion resistant, so maintenance is a breeze.
The blade of this knife is enhanced with a ‘satin finish’. This is a chic and tasteful finish that is very popular.
Carbon-fibre handle
The handle of this Spyderco MicroJimbo CPM S90V C264CFP Carbon Fiber, Sprint Run pocket knife, Michael Janich design is made of carbon fibre, and measures 9.6 cm in length. Carbon fibre is an incredibly strong material. For the handles of pocket knives, carbon fibre sheet material is used. The carbon fibres, often first woven, are pressed into a strong resin under high pressure. The result is a super strong, lightweight material. It is no coincidence that this type of carbon fibre is also very popular in the construction of sports cars and racing cars, as well as in the aerospace industry.
Carbon fibre is a fantastic material for a knife handle, as it keeps the handle nicely lightweight without having to compromise on strength. Moreover, carbon fibre looks amazing. The layers in the material give carbon fibre a high-tech look.
Spyderco: great pioneer in the world of knives
Spyderco is one of the world’s leading knife companies. Many innovations were made by this brand, think of the pocket clip, the thumb hole, a large range of locking mechanisms, but also steel types. It’s safe to say the knife world would have looked very different indeed without Spyderco.
Spyderco was founded in 1976 by Sal and Gail Glesser. Interestingly, they didn’t start out selling knives. The first product Sal and Gail sold was a soldering tool, which they sold travelling around markets. Then came a sharpening system, causing Sal to start experimenting with pocket knives. In his quest for a knife that was easier to open with one hand, he came up with the idea for a round thumb hole while experimenting. A stroke of pure genius.
Today, the next generation is at the helm of Spyderco. Eric Glesser, the son of Sal and Gail, works hard every day to further establish Spyderco as a leading knife brand.
