The Spyderco Moran Upswept FB01PGYD Gray Damasteel, Black FRN Kraton, Sprint Run is a stylish tribute to knife maker Bill Moran. Bill Moran is a big name in the knife industry and the founder of the American Bladesmith Society. To mark the 30th anniversary of Spyderco’s first fixed blade and what would have been Moran’s centenary birthday, Spyderco is releasing this special Sprint Run. This knife is a limited edition.

Bill Moran was a pioneer in the field of hand-forged damascus steel. That is why the blade is made of Damasteel in a ‘DS93X Dense Twist’ pattern, a premium damascus steel consisting of two precision-forged stainless steels. As a finishing touch, the knife comes with a high-quality leather sheath. Traditionally designed, but with an eye for contemporary standards. All in all, this Sprint Run is a wonderful and collectible tribute!



The blade of the Spyderco Moran Upswept FB01PGYD Gray Damasteel, Black FRN Kraton, Sprint Run fixed knife, Bill Moran design measures 10 cm in length and 3 mm in thickness. The total length is 20.5 cm.



Blade made of Damasteel
The blade of this Spyderco Moran, Lightweight, Sprint Runs is made of Damasteel damascus. This material is truly something special. There are enough manufacturers who make good damascus steel, but the Swedish company Damasteel really takes it to the next level. This is because they use two powder steels for forging the damascus. Powder steels have a very fine grain structure at the microscopic level, ensuring they are harder and that they retain their sharpness for a longer time than conventional types of steel. Damasteel uses two powder steels, RWL34 and PMC27, forged together. Not only does it look incredibly cool, it also stays sharp for a long time and can take a beating. This steel also contains more than 13% chromium. This also makes it very corrosion resistant. Therefore, this steel is not just eye candy, it’s also a fantastic practical choice!

Damasteel is based in Söderfors, Sweden. This town has been known for its steel production since 1676. Damasteel builds on this tradition, using state-of-the-art techniques and materials to bring that classic trade into the 21st century.



Spyderco: great pioneer in the world of knives
Spyderco is one of the world’s leading knife companies. Many innovations were made by this brand, think of the pocket clip, the thumb hole, a large range of locking mechanisms, but also steel types. It’s safe to say the knife world would have looked very different indeed without Spyderco.

Spyderco was founded in 1976 by Sal and Gail Glesser. Interestingly, they didn’t start out selling knives. The first product Sal and Gail sold was a soldering tool, which they sold travelling around markets. Then came a sharpening system, causing Sal to start experimenting with pocket knives. In his quest for a knife that was easier to open with one hand, he came up with the idea for a round thumb hole while experimenting. A stroke of pure genius.

Today, the next generation is at the helm of Spyderco. Eric Glesser, the son of Sal and Gail, works hard every day to further establish Spyderco as a leading knife brand.
