The Spyderco Para 3 CPM Cru-Wear C223MPCW Brown Canvas Micarta is a compact EDC pocket knife from Spyderco’s well-known Para 3 series. However, this is not just any Para 3: this is a special edition with a handle made of brown canvas micarta and a blade made of CPM CruWear. An edition of which you might assume it is a limited edition, but that Spyderco, fortunately, added to the regular range. Great!



The Spyderco Para 3 CPM Cru-Wear C223MPCW Brown Canvas Micarta, pocket knife is a cool EDC knife in the colour brown. With its blade length of 7.4 cm, this knife is suitable for daily cutting tasks. For example, opening boxes, peeling an apple, the odd job around the house: this pocket knife can do it all.



Opening the Spyderco Para 3 CPM Cru-Wear C223MPCW Brown Canvas Micarta, pocket knife with one hand is very easy thanks to the thumb hole. Once opened, the sturdy Compression Lock ensures that the blade is locked and won’t accidentally close during use. The Compression Lock is an invention by Sal Glesser and his son Eric Glesser ofSpyderco. In terms of operation, it’s kind of like a reverse liner lock. However, in practice, the Compression Lock is much stronger. This is because the lock wedges laterally between the blade tang and the stop pin, rather than just making contact with the blade. What’s more, a Compression Lock has a very high ‘fidget factor’.



Blade made of CPM CruWear steel
The blade of this Spydercois made of CPM CruWear steel. This is a tool steel known for its strength and sharpness retention. In fact, CruWear retains its edge so well that you will rarely need to sharpen it. You do need to be a bit careful with moisture and acids, however, as CPM CruWear is not entirely stainless. A quick clean after use and an occasional drop of oil will keep this knife in top condition.



The blade of this knife is enhanced with a ‘satin finish’. This is a chic and tasteful finish that is very popular.



Micarta handle

The handle of this Spyderco Para 3 is made of micarta and measures 11 cm in length. Micarta is a great material for pocket knife handles. This material is grippy, relatively lightweight and it looks very cool. It is composed of fabric fibres and synthetic resin. The resulting layers often even make micarta look a bit like wood. However, it is a very stable and strong material.

This knife was designed by an absolute dream team: Sal and Eric Glesser. This father-son duo is integral to Spyderco. Sal founded the company in 1976, Eric grew up in the family business. What could be better for a father and son than working on projects together? That’s exactly what they did when designing this Spyderco Para 3 CPM Cru-Wear C223MPCW Brown Canvas Micarta, pocket knife.

Spyderco is one of the world’s leading knife companies. Many innovations were made by this brand, think of the pocket clip, the thumb hole, a large range of locking mechanisms, but also steel types. It’s safe to say the knife world would have looked very different indeed without Spyderco.

Spyderco was founded in 1976 by Sal and Gail Glesser. Interestingly, they didn’t start out selling knives. The first product Sal and Gail sold was a soldering tool, which they sold travelling around markets. Then came a sharpening system, causing Sal to start experimenting with pocket knives. In his quest for a knife that was easier to open with one hand, he came up with the idea for a round thumb hole while experimenting. A stroke of pure genius.

Today, the next generation is at the helm of Spyderco. Eric Glesser, the son of Sal and Gail, works hard every day to further establish Spyderco as a leading knife brand.
