The Spyderco Sage 6 Button Release Compression Lock C123CFBCLP Carbon Fiber G10 is the newest incarnation in the legendary collection of Sage pocket knives. The shape is similar to the other Sage models, but the lock and materials are different each year with the new edition. With the Sage 6, Spyderco opted for the immensely popular Compression Lock, but just a tad different. This is the ‘Button-Release’ version of the Compression Lock, designed by Kevin Smock of the Spyderco Smock. The lock functions the same, but you unlock it by pressing a button. Just like with a standard button lock. Not only is this a super secure way to unlock the blade, it also gives the Sage 6 a high fidget-factor!

The Spyderco Sage 6 Button Release Compression Lock C123CFBCLP Carbon Fiber G10 pocket knife is a cool EDC knife in the colour black. With its blade length of 7.7 cm, this knife is suitable for daily cutting tasks. For example, opening boxes, peeling an apple, the odd job around the house: this pocket knife can do it all.

Opening the Spyderco Sage 6 Button Release Compression Lock C123CFBCLP Carbon Fiber G10 pocket knife with one hand is very easy thanks to the thumb hole. Once opened, the sturdy Compression Lock ensures that the blade is locked and won’t accidentally close during use. The Compression Lock is an invention by Sal Glesser and his son Eric Glesser ofSpyderco. In terms of operation, it’s kind of like a reverse liner lock. However, in practice, the Compression Lock is much stronger. This is because the lock wedges laterally between the blade tang and the stop pin, rather than just making contact with the blade. What’s more, a Compression Lock has a very high ‘fidget factor’.

Blade made of CPM S30V steel
The blade of this Spyderco Sage is made of CPM S30V steel. This is a premium type of stainless steel made by Crucible Industries in the US. S30V retains its sharpness well and is very corrosion resistant. Moreover, with the right tools, it is also easy to sharpen yourself.

Several leading figures in the knife world collaborated on the development of CPM S30V. Including knife makers like Chris Reeve, Sal Glesser, Ernest Emerson, Tony Marfione, Phil Wilson, Bill Harsey, Mike Jones, Steve Ingrim, Tom Mayo, Jerry Hossom and Paul Bos.

The blade of this knife is enhanced with a ‘satin finish’. This is a chic and tasteful finish that is very popular.

Designer Sal Glesser
Sal Glesser is the legendary founder of Spyderco. Together with his wife Gail, he founded this iconic knife brand. He is the inventor of the round thumb hole and many more innovations. Many of Spyderco’s standard models were designed by Sal himself. Read more about Sal Glesser here.

Spyderco: great pioneer in the world of knives
Spyderco is one of the world’s leading knife companies. Many innovations were made by this brand, think of the pocket clip, the thumb hole, a large range of locking mechanisms, but also steel types. It’s safe to say the knife world would have looked very different indeed without Spyderco.

Spyderco was founded in 1976 by Sal and Gail Glesser. Interestingly, they didn’t start out selling knives. The first product Sal and Gail sold was a soldering tool, which they sold travelling around markets. Then came a sharpening system, causing Sal to start experimenting with pocket knives. In his quest for a knife that was easier to open with one hand, he came up with the idea for a round thumb hole while experimenting. A stroke of pure genius.

Today, the next generation is at the helm of Spyderco. Eric Glesser, the son of Sal and Gail, works hard every day to further establish Spyderco as a leading knife brand.
